I so highly recommend an engagement shoot if you love to be photographed. And who wouldn’t, if you look like Todd and Brandon. I had so much fun with these two hotties running around Tribeca in NYC with their French Bulldog and flowerdog, Bayley. Having never met Todd and Brandon before, I was thrilled by the super warm reception I got from them. I felt like I’d known them for years and we fell right into a groove during their engagement session.
For those of you who don’t like to be photographed, an engagement shoot may be a little more painful however getting to know your photographer before the wedding really makes you so much more comfortable on the wedding day. Try to combine it with a hair and make up trial if you are a bride and kill two birds with one stone. Check out this pretty Hudson Valley engagement shoot that I photographed last year in Beacon, NY for more inspiration.
I also recommend having your wedding photographer photograph the rehearsal dinner in lieu of or in addition to the engagement shoot (Todd and Brandon hired me for that as well. Unfortunately Bayley did not attend. She had other plans apparently.) for the same reason. And you get the added bonus of the family and friends getting to know the photographer and that certainly makes the wedding day’s portrait session go more smoothly.
