The morning of Jessie and Brett’s Bridgehampton Tennis and Surf Club wedding was a dreary, drizzling, and cloudy day. Upon arriving at the club the chairs had already been set up inside for the backup plan. The sky was ominous and the forecast insisted on rain. These lovebirds extraordinaire would not be deterred.
The fearless bride insisted (kindly) that the club move everything back outside and hope for the best and her lovely parents concurred. This is one of the many reasons I looooove shooting at BTSC. No other club would have so calmly rearranged the plan and been almost excited about it. And if you have ever met Jessie and Brett, and their families, you would do what they asked too. Their smiles are infectious and their love is really the kind that lasts forever. I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement shoot at Muscoot Farm in Westchester where Jessie worked as a kid so I had already seen them in action. They are so freaking cute!
Thanks to some really great karma, the clouds broke about an hour before the ceremony right on cue. This fortuitous timing added an even greater sense of magic and destiny to what was already an unforgettable moment. Big dramatic clouds floated by with magical rays of light steaking through them as the ceremony began. Jessie and Brett exchanged vows and rings surrounded by sand, sea, sky, and all of their dearest family and friends just like they had imagined.
From Jessie and Brett, “we used our grandparents’ kiddush cups (including the kiddush cups from Jessie’s grandparents’ wedding) and our grandfathers’ talits for the ceremony. It was very important for us to incorporate items from those who could not be with us on this special day. We felt their presence throughout the ceremony, and it was hard not to feel a sense of divine intervention when the sky cleared (just on our part of the beach) as we began our trek down the aisle. ”
They then celebrated with a party that was just bursting with love and positive energy. They said “Even with months of planning and organizing, the wedding exceeded our highest expectations and will live in our memories as a day to be cherished forever. We are so grateful to everyone who shared it with us and helped make what felt like a dream an actual reality.” Your tender hearted photographer (me!) welled up with tears about 57 times during this one.
And, how could I forget to mention, rather than throwing flower petals or blowing bubbles as they left the ceremony, the guests pummeled them with cute little red and yellow inflatable mini beach balls. How darn cute is that?
