I love when a wedding is a little bit stunning and a little bit nuts. Maybe a lotta bit stunning and a lotta bit nuts. Courtney and Tyler’s Bridgehampton Beach Club wedding designed with the help of Claire Bean Events, won the award for beauty and the beats. Beachy and beauty in the front, party in the back. All under a gorgeous sailcloth Sperry Tent.
Courtney met Tyler at a barbeque with her sister and a group of friends about 4 years ago. They spent the night chatting and flirting and dancing. The day after, Tyler asked Courtney’s sister if he could take Courtney out on a date.“He actually called to ask me to dinner. He’s always been a Southern gentleman; it’s what I find most attractive about him.”
After four years of blissful dating, on Thanksgiving of 2016, both of their families came together in Amagansett for the holiday. “We took a break from cooking the meal and Tyler and I went out for a drive with our adopted dog Penny on a deserted beach,” she says. “He claimed he was looking for our families and that they’d stopped their car up ahead. We jumped out and when I walked around to his side of the car he was kneeling with a ring in one hand, and Penny in the other.” Of course, Courtney said yes. Their families, who had been hiding by the dunes, came flooding out of their hiding spots with Champagne.
Naturally, Tyler and Courtney knew exactly where they would get married, having met in The Hamptons and having such a connection to the beach. “We designed a whole weekend for our friends and family, hoping to create that sense of community that is unique to a destination wedding and show them a sliver of Amagansett—our favorite place,” she says. They hired the “super talented spitfire”, Claire Bean, who not only has great taste, a fantastic sense of humor, a calm and cool presence but can also design the hell out of florals. Yes, she not only planned the whole wedding but she was also responsible for all the gorgeous florals.
The ceremony was held on a Saturday in Bridgehampton at a private club on the ocean. “We tried hard to find a unique beachfront setting that would allow us to get married and have the reception at the same location,” explains Courtney. Courtney and Tyler shared their own sweet vows, a set of five promises the bride and groom jointly made to each other. Writing your own vows really makes things so personal and special and if you want tears to flow, that usually does the trick. “It was important that our dog Penny be a part of the day, so she walked down the aisle with a collar made of baby’s breath,” Courtney says. The two are huge animal lovers and big proponents of “adopt don’t shop” and asked guests to donate to Muddy Paws Rescue in lieu of a gift. How great is that?
The dance-loving couple set the tone for the reception by entering the tent to Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”. “By the end of the night, even the catering staff was on the dance floor,” Courtney laughs.
And quite a dance party it was. Donning 80s sunglasses and blow-up guitars, Tyler and his (gorgeous) mother danced to Dire Straight’s “Money for Nothing”, Courtney’s brother-in-law later jumped on stage to sing “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, and as the night went on, costumes were passed out for guests to dress up as space robots, American Gladiators, pirates, and magicians. As a sendoff, the guests were given huge sparklers which scared the crap out of everyone (or maybe that was just me) when one particularly wild guest put about 40 sparklers in the fire pit. I had a fleeting “great light on those guys” thought before diving for cover.
