Antastasia & Wilmot chose the elegantly gothic High Line Hotel as their reception venue, having met and first lived together in New York City. They wanted to show off all the city has to offer for their wedding celebration and give their out of town guests a NYC primer and having a High Line Hotel Wedding was perfect for their reception and the clean, modern hotel The Standard for their welcome dinner. As I have mentioned before having your photographer photograph the rehearsal dinner is a great way to ensure that family feels comfortable during family portraits the next day.
Classic New York glamour, check. Savory tart table by Once Upon a Tart, check. Cool bridesmaids’ dresses, check. Savile Row suit, check. Modern, romantic lace wedding gown by Marchesa, check. If you’re anything like Anastasia and Wilmot and prefer savory to sweet, why not consider an alternative to cake and have your planner (think Chelsea LaFolette of Brilliant Event Planning – she was amazing.) set up a stunning, sumptuous savory tart display like they did with help from Once Upon a Tart.)
And thank you, brides, for letting your friends wear cool, unique dresses like Ana did. Dresses that they look and feel great in. Of course, these women could wear paper bags and look stunning. Check out the beautiful, unique dresses on the two bridesmaids by Needle and Thread.

Traditional Meet Stylish.
Ana and Wilmot opted for a traditional church ceremony and incorporated their love of music and literature, choosing a reading of Chapter 58 of Henry Melville’s Moby Dick as well as more standard readings. Try to include a personal touch in your ceremony, something that moves you. A vow, a piece of music, a reading by someone special. Ana is half Russian and loves Tchaikovsky and Wilmot is a big Herman Melville fan and often quotes from Moby Dick. These are the little things that you will remember and that will connect you during the ceremony which can be a stressful time if you don’t love standing in front of 150 people who are all staring at you. These two chose Tchaikovsky’s String Quarter #1 in D Opus 11 Andante Cantabile for the professional, for a meditation they chose Haydn’s Concerto no 1 in C Major for Cello and Orchestra, and for the Recessional, Vivaldi’s Concerto in B flat for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra: Allegro. They chose traditional vows and were married in the same church as Wilmot’s parents which added a familiarity to the day.
The bride and groom exited the church to a flurry of pink rose petals and spent about 30 minutes on the crisp Fall day outside the lovely stone church chatting with guests in lieu of a receiving line which, as a photographer, was super fun and felt more intimate.
Old School Romance.
You know what else was super fun? Shooting at The High Line Hotel. The old school romantic venue is a real find in the midst of the more modern venues in New York City and that resonated with this classic yet stylish couple. They had seen photos online of the main hall at the hotel and thought it was a gorgeous and traditional option that fit with their aesthetic and vision for the day. They liked that it had a little quirk to it, keeping it from being pretentious. Plus, it has an adorable downstairs coffee shop if you’re ever in the area.
And just wait until you see what they did with the room. Tons of candles, white pumpkins holding table numbers and tart descriptions, vintage cut crystal glassware, and the prettiest flowers I’ve ever seen. Hiring a lighting team elevates the hell out of your reception and really filling up the room with flowers and candles make a large room with a dramatic ceiling feel so cozy.
The hotel has this amazing iconic staircase, perfect for the first time the bride and groom see each other, for that giant impromptu family shot thrown at the photographer during the reception, and perfect for the incredible sweeping glorious guest entrance featuring a looooong wooden escort table with place cards, hundreds of candles, and tons of family photos, which Ana and Wilmot particularly loved as their parents have both been married for over 45 years. Candles, candles, candles everywhere. Your photographer will love you. And you will love your photographs.
After all the guests were seated, Anastasia and Wilmot made their grand entrance to the cheers of 175 of their favorite people. Seeing the glow on their faces, it’s obvious that this was their favorite part of the day. They danced to Neil Young’s Harvest Moon on the night of a harvest moon in October and danced the night away.
